And then something magical happened…
Ouch!!! I woke up. Deep inside the middle of my brain stung with pain.
Every time my neck moved the slightest bit, lightening shot from my shoulder blades through my shoulders, into my head and through my eyes.
My occipital nerve felt sore, the kind of sore it feels when someone pokes at a bruise.
My eyes felt swollen and dry. They continued to water a bit as I squinted trying to make the pain go away.
My family and I had already been sick with the flu over Christmas. Now, I was in this bizarre pain over the New Year’s holiday.
Unfortunately, the bizarre pain is not so uncommon to me. When I’m stressing out, I get this pain. If I head it off with some healing actions, usually it only lasts for about a day or two.
This time, several days went by like this, and each day I hoped that I could do something to make it go away. So, I tried all of the things I should have been doing in the first place to prevent this state of pain.
I took long, hot baths with my feet up while meditating. I iced my head and eyes with an ice cap. I iced my shoulders. My husband rubbed my shoulders, hard. I did yoga. I took myself on several short walks. I took aspirin and tylenol every 4-6 hours. I rehydrated myself.
Nothing was working… It’s not like you get to stop and be sick when you have two toddlers, so I wanted this fixed when it started.
On one of my short walks, I let myself think about pain and how it makes us better. It makes us reevaluate who we are, what we are doing, and almost forces us to change, I mean, unless we want to stay in pain.
Those times in my life where I have been in the MOST PAIN have produced the BEST results, so why shy away from it and try to make it go away? Why not use it as one of the BEST tools to make yourself and your life better?
This is one of my very favorite verses ever. In fact, it is my four year old’s baptism verse. At one point in my life, way before I even thought I could have him, I had this verse at my desk and looked at it all day for months. It’s special to me. Encouraging to me.
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” (James 1:2-4)
With it being the first of the year, I started thinking about all the things that were painful this past year. Here are some of the ones related to our business buying journey.
Painful:
🤑 invest thousands of dollars on a learning community
🚤 turn down fun vacation with friends and family
☎️ week-in and week-out get on calls, write notes, listen & participate to learn
👶 pay for babysitters
🚗 rush around between work and bedtime to prioritize learning
💩 put aside as much domestic work as possible
📰 write newsletters & articles
📈 learn about SEO & make websites
⌛️ spend many hours searching for deals
🤔 uncomfortably talking to brokers/lenders
⏲️ lots of self reflection looking for weaknesses (not always such a fun feeling)
And then something magical happened… I realized that I have become someone else. Someone much better.
Between who I was when I started investing so diligently and who I am now are two totally different people.
Wait for it…… 398% return … You can’t make a return on investment anywhere near that anywhere else.
Here are a couple of positive take-aways:
Pain is Fruitful - pain gives us strong information that can make us very fruitful
Know Your Pains - reflect on your own pains to make yourself better
